Progress continues at the Draycott Cottages

Despite the additional restrictions and limitations imposed due to Covid-19; the working parties have found ways and means to maintain social distancing and get a huge amount of work done over the last few months! Nowhere are these efforts more evident than at Draycott; both along the “Golden Mile” and at the Cottages, which are well on their way to being fully restored.

Externally the cottages are essentially complete; and work is well progressed on the interiors. The stairs have been fitted to a number of the cottages, and well as internal walls, electricity, water, waste, flooring, etc. We hope to have the 1st cottage fully complete soon!

The site has now been cleared and leveled to allow for the completion of the car park in mere weeks.  The railway sleeper retaining walls are in place around the perimeter, and a number of short walls have been built that already give the site more definition. The heritage toilet block is nearly complete, and the “working” toilet block foundations have been laid and the walls are taking shape.

Work continues; and if you’re interested in lending a hand and being involved you’d be most welcome – email info@derbycanal.org.uk for more information.
