Dear Members of the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust

Welcome to the latest edition of the newsletter;

Hello again! At last, the days are beginning to draw out, even if it has brought the snow season with it!

Kate Birtles Award 2020

I have at least had the pleasure of presenting Don with his award of the Kate Birtles Award for the year 2020, and when all the shops reopen we will even get it engraved for him. Well done and thanks for all your hard work Don (and of course not forgetting his good lady, Joyce).

Social Meetings

We held our first virtual public meeting on Tuesday 26th January at 7.30pm via zoom, with Steve Bacon giving us all a wonderful talk on the Wilts and Berks. We had over 40 members attending and all seemed to enjoy the presentation and questions afterwards.

Our next guest will be our own Chris Madge giving us all the chance to catch up with events to date and also to hear of the plans moving forward including the trip boat and cottages and many more items. To join the meeting on Tuesday 23rd February at 7.30pm – if you’re a member and haven’t recieved the Zoom meeting details please get in touch at info@derbycanal.org.ukIf you’re not a member, then join today!

Whilst we are all still observing the Covid rules regarding safe working practise we are also keen to recruit new members to the team for specific roles and as such we will be launching a “Situations Vacant” post appearing in the next edition. In the meantime please do not wait to contact us at info@derbycanal.org.uk if you do have any time or skills that you can offer.

Keep safe and warm, I hope to see you at the meeting on the 23rd.

Eddy – Chairman
