Chairman’s Update – Christmas 2023

Work is underway to deal with the aftermath of the flood waters from Storm Babet. Our teams have been working with insurers to clear out the debris from the three flooded cottages and restoration works are now in progress, with hopes to be back in operation in a couple of months. The café escaped the flooding and reopened the next day. They’ve even attracted new groups of visitors. Is this a resurgence of the Mods to rival Matlock Bath?!

Our volunteers have hired a large digger and looked to clear the canal channel and surrounding water courses to enable water to flow more quickly. It appears that the floods resulted from faster and greater flows down the hill at a height not previously experienced. Our efforts are now being concentrated on enhancing the flood defences and ensuring it doesn’t happen again.
